Based on the in-situ investigation, three derailment mechanisms of railway wheelset are discussed. Then, the various derailment criteria are summarized and the problems of derailment criteria are put up. Moreover, the experiments of derailment are analyzed and five types of derailment are forwarded. Finally, protection countermeasures of derailment are put up.
