It is rather important to attempt carrying out an effective assessment system to replace the traditional and monotonous mode of summative assessment in the current reform of English major teaching.The paper aims at doing some theoretical research and practice on introducing the formative assessment system into English major teaching in order to form consummate mode of formative assessment and to effectively enhance English major teaching efficiency.
