On May 7, 1984, the university established the Editorial Board of the Journal of East China Jiaotong University. On October 27, the Publicity Department of the CPC Jiangxi Provincial Committee approved the university’s proposal to launch the Journal of East China Jiaotong University. In December, the first issue of the journal was officially published and distributed.

In 1985, the university established the Office of Scientific Research and Production, under which the Editorial Office of the journal was set up. One issue was published that year.

In 1986, the journal was changed to a semiannual publication.

In 1992, it was changed to a quarterly publication.

In 2003, it was changed to a bimonthly publication.

In 2012, the journal was awarded First Prize for “Excellent Journal of Chinese Scientific Papers Online (2011)” by the Science and Technology Development Center of the Ministry of Education (Document No. [2012]182). It was the only journal in Jiangxi Province to receive this award.

In 2014, it was selected as one of the first recognized academic journals by the former State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.

In 2015, the journal again received First Prize for “Excellent Journal of Chinese Scientific Papers Online (2014)” by the Science and Technology Development Center of the Ministry of Education (Document No. [2015]162), continuing to be the only award-winning journal in Jiangxi Province.

In 2021, it was included in the Catalogue of High-Quality Scientific Journals in the Railway Transportation Field as a T2-level high-quality journal.

In 2024, it was selected as an RCCSE China Core Academic Journal in the discipline of Transportation Engineering (Level A-).
